Questions we get asked.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our school has a counselor. Why would we need you too?
School counselors manage dozens or hundreds of students. Their time is limited, and their focus is usually on the application year itself. We work one-on-one, starting as early as Grade 9, on long-term planning, essay strategy, and application execution. Think of us as the specialist; your school counselor is the generalist. They handle the basics well. We go deeper.
Do you guarantee admission to any school?
No. Nobody credible can. Schools with 3-5% acceptance rates reject perfect students every year. What we do: build the strongest possible application and a balanced, realistic college list so your child has options they’d be genuinely happy with.
Do you help with applications outside the US?
Yes. We work with students applying to the US, UK, Europe, and Singapore. Each system has different processes (UCAS personal statements vs. Common App essays, different deadlines, different admissions criteria), and we adjust our approach for each.
Do you organize counseling by grade or by application stage?
Both. Families usually think by grade, but admissions work depends on stage. Grade 9 and 10 are usually about exploration and subject direction. Grade 11 is usually pre-application strategy: academic depth, activity focus, testing plans, and early college direction. Grade 12 is usually application execution. We use the student’s grade as a starting point, then adjust based on where they actually are.
My child is in Grade 11 but not applying yet. Is this too early?
No. In many ways, Grade 11 is the year where better choices still matter. We are not trying to manufacture a profile at the last minute. We look at course choices, academic depth, activity focus, testing timeline, and early shortlist direction so the application year is less rushed.
Is Grade 9 too early to start?
It’s too early to stress about applications. It’s not too early to explore interests, build study habits, and make informed course choices. Our Grade 9-10 work is light and exploratory. No pressure. No resume-building anxiety. See the Grades 9-10 plan.
Should my Grade 9 child take APs?
For most students, Grade 9 is too early. Focus on strong academics, exploring extracurriculars, and building foundational skills. In rare cases, a student who is genuinely advanced might take AP Psychology or AP Environmental Science. We’ll advise based on your child’s specific situation.
What boards do you work with?
CBSE, ICSE, IB (MYP and DP), and Cambridge IGCSE/A Levels. The counseling principles are the same; the specifics (subject options, grading scales, timelines) differ, and we adjust for each.
How many students do you take on?
We take a small cohort each year. This is intentional. It means each student gets direct attention from our team, not a templated process delivered by junior staff.
Do you write the essays?
No. We never write or ghostwrite essays. The student writes every word. We guide, ask questions, provide structural and voice feedback, and help with revision. The essay must sound like the student. That’s the whole point.
What’s the difference between your full package and the essay-only package?
The Grades 11-12 work can cover both pre-application strategy and application execution: academic positioning, shortlisting, timeline management, essays, LOR guidance, interviews, and submission review. The essay package focuses specifically on personal statements, supplementals, activities section, and interview prep. If you’re unsure which fits, let’s talk.
Can you get my child into a specific school?
No. Nobody can guarantee admission to any specific school. What we do: build the strongest possible application and a realistic, balanced list so your child has options they’d be genuinely happy with.
