We built AltView from what we learned as parents.

AltView is a small-by-design, counseling-only college admissions practice. We work with about 5-6 students a year, so every family gets our attention. No test prep, no loan tie-ups, no program commissions. Just counseling.

Our Story

Why We Started AltView

When our daughter was applying to college, we did what most parents do. We looked for a counselor. What we found was discouraging.

Most “counselors” turned out to be sales operations. They would recommend their own test prep courses. They would push study-abroad loans. They would upsell expensive summer programs. Actual admissions strategy? An afterthought, if it came up at all.

We got lucky. We found a counselor who focused entirely on our daughter: her interests, her story, what she was good at, where she would thrive. The result: she was accepted to both Princeton and IIT.

That experience changed how we thought about this industry. Good counseling exists, but it is rare. Most families do not get lucky the way we did. So we built what we wished we had found from the start.

Our rule: we only do counseling. No test prep. No loan partnerships. No summer program commissions. If we recommend something, it is because we believe it helps the student. Not because it helps our revenue.

There is another part of this that matters to us too. Between us, we come from technology, analytical, and systems backgrounds. That does not mean we treat students like spreadsheets. It means we are uncomfortable with vague advice, borrowed formulas, and random activity lists passed off as strategy.

We like clarity. We like asking what is actually true here, what matters, what is noise, and what decision follows from that. Families usually feel the difference. The process is still demanding, but it becomes less murky and less driven by panic.

How We Work

Every student gets direct access to us. Not a junior associate. Not a content team. Us.

Sessions are one-on-one. We work across the full timeline: course planning, extracurricular strategy, college shortlisting, essays, interviews, and application execution.

But the real work is not logistics. It is helping students figure out who they are and how to communicate that honestly. Admissions officers read thousands of applications. The ones that stand out are the ones where a real person comes through. That’s what we aim for.

We take on a small cohort per year. That number is intentional. It means we know each student well enough to give advice that’s actually specific to them, not generic recommendations that apply to anyone.

We work remotely with families across India; most sessions happen evenings and weekends.

Our Team

A small, experienced team with complementary strengths across counseling, storytelling, and admissions strategy.

Sanjeeta Katiyar

MCA (University of Pune), Executive MBA (IIM Calcutta)

Sanjeeta runs the day-to-day counseling practice. She works directly with students on profile building, college lists, application strategy, and parent communication. She is usually the first person a student talks to and the most consistent presence throughout the engagement.

Adithi Rao

BA in Theatre (Smith College, MA)

Adithi is a screenwriter, playwright, and author. She has written for Aamir Khan Productions, conducts writing workshops across India, and teaches at Srishti Manipal Institute. She leads essay coaching, helping students find stories worth telling and write them in a voice that is genuinely theirs.

Dr. Apoorv Durga

B.Tech (IIT-BHU), MBA (IIM Calcutta), PhD (FMS, Delhi University)

Apoorv handles strategic planning and the analytical side of admissions: research, data, competitive positioning, and the admissions-is-a-system framework that shapes how AltView operates.

What We Believe

Fit matters more than prestige.

We’d rather a student thrive at a school that suits them than struggle at a name-brand school that doesn’t.

Admissions is not random, but it’s not guaranteed either.

There are patterns, strategies, and things you can control. There are also things you can’t. We focus on the first set and are honest about the second.

Authenticity is visible.

Admissions officers can spot manufactured passion. Counselors who build fake profiles are doing their students a disservice. We don’t do that.

Rejection is normal.

Even excellent students get rejected from top schools. A 3% acceptance rate means 97% of applicants don’t get in. We prepare students to have options they’re genuinely excited about, not just one dream school.

We don’t guarantee admissions. Nobody credible can. We focus on building strong applications and smart, realistic lists.
